About Shrtr
Shrtr is a free URL shortener with instant QR codes and privacy-friendly click analytics. It's a small, independent project — this page explains what it is, who runs it, and what you can rely on.
What Shrtr is
Paste a long link and get a short one, with a QR code (PNG or SVG) generated instantly. Redirects use HTTP 302 so the click counter never freezes, and the short code is a permanent public identifier — the link keeps working. Anonymous shortening needs no account; a free account adds click analytics, tags and link management, and paid tiers add dynamic (repointable) QR links, scheduled expiry and branded QR codes. There's also a no-signup JSON API and Telegram / Viber bots.
Who runs it
Shrtr is built and operated by Aliaksandr Palazok, an individual based in the Republic of Poland — not a company or a VC-backed startup. That's deliberate: it keeps the service small, focused, and free of the incentive to monetise your data. For anything at all, email support@shrtr.top. Full data-handling details are in the Privacy Policy and Terms.
Principles
- Privacy first. No advertising, no analytics SDKs, no cross-site tracking. IP addresses are stored only as salted hashes, for rate-limiting and abuse defence — never raw.
- Free and honest. The core service is free, with no ads and no dark patterns. Paid tiers, when they arrive, add capacity and power features — they never gate away links you already made.
- Open by default. A documented JSON API you can use without signing up, and QR codes you fully own as PNG or SVG. Client examples and the OpenAPI spec live on GitHub.
Reliability & longevity
The single most important thing a shortener can promise is that the link still works later. Shrtr runs on a dedicated server with regular automated database backups, plus layered rate-limiting and abuse gates. We don't remove links that are in active use without cause. We do clean up abandoned, never-used duplicate anonymous links and anything that breaches the Terms — for example a destination that turns malicious — which the Terms describe in full. No online service can promise perfect availability and we don't claim a formal SLA; what we offer is a service run carefully and transparently.
